Although the DRSABCD action plan is the gold standard in Australia, the ABCD model still offers a useful summary of CPR priorities:
- A – Airway: Clear the airway to allow oxygen to enter.
- B – Breathing: Check for normal breathing. Provide rescue breaths if trained.
- C – Compressions: Begin chest compressions if the person is not breathing.
- D – Defibrillation: Apply an AED as soon as it’s available.
These steps are critical in increasing the likelihood of a successful resuscitation.
